Circumlocution

Every now and then I stumble on a really good word and I have to put it somewhere. Here seems a good place.

cir-cum-lo-cu-tion

The use of unnecessarily wordy and indirect language. Evasion in speech or writing. A roundabout expression.

Usage

The circumlocution only confused his associates until, finally, someone told him to simply shut up.

May Six, Nineteen Sixty Five

Born on May 6, 1965 I turn 42 today. In my 42 years on the Planet, my single largest achievement is being a Dad to two fantastic kids. While it’s difficult splitting their time between their mother and myself, ensuring that I’m around for them, support them, cheer them on and love them unconditionally is my present legacy to my time on Earth. Perhaps another legacy will evolve during my next 42 years, but if not, I’ll be happy to leave this life knowing my children were cared for with all of me.

Lucikly, I share my birthday with some pretty awesome people. Here’s a short list of celebrities also born on May 6, along with some of their most famous quotes.

There is a tendency for the world to say to America, "the big problems of the world are yours, you go and sort them out," and then to worry when America wants to sort them out.
--Tony Blair

I passionately hate the idea of being with it. I think an artist has always to be out of step with his time.
--Orson Welles

From error to error one discovers the entire truth.
--Sigmund Freud

I have nailed the Stars and Stripes to the North Pole
-- Robert E. Peary

Who wants to brave those bronze beauties; Lying in the sun; With their long soft hair falling; Flying as they run; Oh they smile so shy; And they flirt so well; And they lay you down so fast; Till you look straight up and say; Oh lord; Am I really here at last
-- Bob Seger

When you're young you believe it when people tell you how good you are. And that's the danger, you inhale. Everyone will tell you you're a genius, which you are not, and if you understand that, you win.
-- George Clooney

Breathe (2 a.m.)

These lyrics really shout something that resonates with me. I first heard them nearly three years ago and each time I hear the song from Anna Nalick I get tingles.

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe, just breathe,
Woah breathe, just breahte

There's a light at each end of this tunnel, you shout
But you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
These mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around.

Things I Learned at Work

clipped from www.djtech.net

Indecision is the key to flexibility.

You can't tell which way the train went by looking at the track.

There is absolutely no substitute for a genuine lack of preparation.

Sometimes too much to drink is not enough.

The facts, although interesting, are irrelevant.

The careful application of terror is also a form of communication.

Someone who thinks logically is a nice contrast to the real world.

Anything worth fighting for is worth fighting dirty for.

Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate.

If you think there is good in everybody, you haven't met everybody.

All things being equal, fat people use more soap.

One seventh of your life is spent on Monday.

Every time you make ends meet, they move the ends.

The more you run over a dead cat, the flatter it gets.

There is always one more imbecile than you counted on.

The trouble with life is, you're halfway through it before you
realize it's a do-it-yourself thing.

Things are more like they are today than they ever were before.
